Biography

Whiskey Sister is a group of musicians with a passion for the Rock and Blues, who plays music for the soul. This Cape Town based band started out as a duo in 2012; the now busy 4-piece simply loves making music and inspiring their audiences.

Lead Guitarist and frontman Raymond Buitendag plays a smooth blues guitar and sets the tone, rhythm and tempo for the rest of the band.  Mark Van Zayl (drummer) plays a fast paced, rhythmic style, similar to Keith Moon. Backup vocalist / ukulele player is Ntlanhla Morgan Kutu adds a unique quality to The Picts' sound, while bassist Armand Buitendag simply rocks, and yes - the frontman and the bassist are related.

This innovative and interactive band puts a new spin on old school Rock and Blues, utilising modern playing techniques and taking stylistic inspiration from  bands such as Red Hot Chili Peppers, Rolling Stones, and Jack White.  Their use of old, traditional instruments that are filled with soul, adds to their unique rocking sound. Taking inspiration from Jack White, The Picts tend not to play with sound mixing, in order to keep their music as pure and rich as possible.

Encouraging the guests to get up and move to the music is a pivotal part of their performance, "because if they move we move"...
