Muzukidz
Location: Based in Cape TownBiography
A youth group with a difference, Muzukidz oozes Proudly South African charm and talent and cuts deep into the hearts of whomever is lucky enough to hear and see them. Made up of children mostly from poor township families around Cape Town, Muzukidz is not only a source of education and beautiful music; it is a beacon of hope for the many families involved, and in fact for South Africa as a whole.
Founded by South African violinist and educator Maria Botha, who spent many years living and working in France, where she also learned the suzuki teaching method which the organisation's group violin tuition is based on, Muzukidz has over the past few years become an enormously important part of the lives of the children and families who are part of the project; so much so that Maria is now dedicating her life to the organisation, with a strong desire to help break the chain of poverty which characterises the lives of most of the families.
The children receive violin lessons twice or three times per week, in a fun and caring environment. Children from more affluent neighborhoods are also involved, and as such Muzukidz offers a fantastic opportunity for children from different backgrounds to connect and make music together.
As a live act, Muzukidz is as heartwarming as it gets. Under the guidance of Maria, the group of 12 - 20 children performs repertoire ranging from Bach to Kwela, all played from memory. Book them for a background music performance of up to 30 minutes, or as a featured act - a perfect way to open an internstional conference, or entertain local and/or international guests at a beautiful wedding!
All money received in lieu of live performances go towards the travel fund that has been set up to enable to group to travel to France for a concert tour in 2021.
