WILLIAM HAUBRICH

Born in San Diego, California in 1960, composer, arranger, producer, trombonist , trumpeter William Haubrich joined the Cape Town Symphony in 1982 and was soon ensconced into the local jazz and African music scenes.  William manages Kariba and is in constant demand as brass performer in jazz, classical, African, world, Jewish, and other settings. He is currently Head of Brass at the University of Cape Town’s College of Music.

SYLVAIN PARFAIT BALOUBETA

Sylvainn was born in 1975 in Brazzaville, and cites one of the most precious gifts he received from his religious family being the gift and legacy of Music.  At ten he started learning the guitar, playing and singing in the church band.  At fifteen he created and led Etoile de Matin (Morning Star) which performed original music, mostly his own compositions.  At this point he started participating in competitions and festivals.

In 1997 he was inspired to take up bass guitar by the music of Etienne Mbape and Marthe Linley.  The end of 1997 saw the exodus of many musicians from his country, as civil war caused the collapse of formal institutions of Arts and Culture.  He stayed on working and performing until 2004, when he finally headed for South Africa.

Client Feedback

Thanks! All went very well and the group was great and very nice to deal with.
Christina Holt, Wedding Concepts

Kariba was great at our wedding reception!  The music was beautiful, jivey and polished with an intuitive choice of material.  The musicians were flexible, easy-going and professional and interacted appropriately with our guests. They had a great sound system which we used for speeches as well. Kariba really helped make the occasion joyous and memorable.
Paul and Roshan Dantu

Thank you to KaribaTar for a wonderful evening! We had the band play at my father's 70th birthday and everyone enjoyed it thoroughly. The music was brilliant and the band was such a pleasure to work with. Thank you again for a memorable evening!
