Elina Koytcheva

Born in Sofia, Bulgaria, Elina took up violin at the age of 6, receiving her training at the National School of Music “Lyubomir Pipkov”, where she studied for 12 years, as well as the Bulgarian Music Academy “Pancho Vladiguerov”.  She has won a Bulagarian National competition for solo violin.  During her studies in Bulgaria she was part of different ensembles  and chamber orchestras and travelled extensively to France, Spain, Greece, Mexico, Germany, Italy and Brazil.  Between 1993-1994 she was invited to perform with a Piano Duo at Sheraton Hotel in Ankara, Turkey, playing various musical styles. 

Elina went to the Netherlands in 1994 to work and continue her studies, graduating from Rotterdam’s Conservatory in 1999 in the violin class of Natasha Morozova.  While in the Netherlands Elina was part of the Dutch production “Bernstein on Stage”, playing major symphony works of Leonard Bernstein.  She also worked on various big Dutch productions, including “The Phantom of the Opera“, “Evita”, “West Side Story”, “Joe, the Musical” and “Fiddler on the Roof”.  In Holland she continued performing on freelance basis with Noord-Hollands Orkest, Holland Symphonia and Nederlands Ballet Orkest.  Between 2002-2004 she was a regular ad hoc player with Metropole Orkest and Dutch only jazz & pop orchestra, backing international artists like Oleta Adams, Gino Vinelli, Steve Vai, Herbie Hancock, Al Jarreau, Tim Ries  and others. She participated in various concerts, studio, radio & television recordings. 

In 2005 Elina relocated to Cape Town where she performes with various groups and ensembles, playing a wide range of musical styles and genres, from classical through to jazz  and pop.  She is currently she is a member of Yemanya  and a founding member of  Cadillac String Quartet.

Natasha Otero

Natasha Otero holds the degrees BMus and BMus Honours from the University Cape Town.  She originally studied under Anmari Van der Westhuisen and is currently studying with Kristtiyan Chernev.  She has participated in numerous master classes with renowned cellists including Maria Kliegel, Julian Lloyd Weber and Thomas Carrol.  During her studies she was a member of the UCT Symphony Orchestra and also participated in the International Chamber Festival and the South African National Youth Orchestra and Symphony Orchestra. She has performed as an ad-hoc player with the Cape Philharmonic Orchestra and has had much experience playing in various local productions, operas and professional engagements.

Petra Hofmeyr

Petra Hofmeyr completed her BMus Performance (Orchestral Studies) degree at the South African College of Music at the University of Cape Town [UCT] in 2005 under Associate Professor Farida Bacharova.  Her previous teacher was Prof Jack de Wet. She also received Master Classes from Philippe Gravin during her studies and was a member of the UCT String Quartet in 2005.  In 2007 Petra was invited to England by the Britten-Pears Young Artist Program to be part of the Britten-Pears Orchestra during their production of Britten’s opera “Death in Venice” under the baton of Paul Daniel.

Petra enjoys taking part in a wide variety of musical projects, which includes: Touring China with saxophonist Andrew Young in December of 2005 and as orchestra leader in 2006; Performing with American singer/songwriter/producer Kanye West during the Cape Town leg of his world tour; Performing at the FIFA Final Draw Red Carpet Event in Cape Town in December 2009; Performing as part of the George Benson string section at the Cape Town International Jazz Festival in 2010; and Cape Philharmonic Orchestra tour of the USA in 2011; among others.  Petra has played on an ad hoc basis for the Eastern Cape Philharmonic Orchestra, the KwaZulu-Natal Philharmonic Orchestra, and most frequently with the Cape Philharmonic Orchestra, Camerata Tinta Barocca Ensemble and Cape Town Pops Orchestra.  She is currently a member of the Euridice String Quartet and the Cadillac String Quartet.  Petra is also a violin tutor and teaches privately as well as at various institutions in and around Cape Town.

Valentina Koleva-Vorster

Valentina (Koleva) Vorster studied violin at the National Academy of Music in Sofia, Bulgaria, where she obtained her BMus Degree. She has won Bulgarian national competitions for solo violin and chamber music. During her studies she received Master Classes from the acclaimed Bulgarian violinist Vanya Milanova, and she participated in a project for Baroque music in Neuecelle, Germany.  As a member of two Bulgarian State Symphony orchestras, including Bulgarian National Radio Orchestra, she toured throughout most of the European countries - incl. France, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Norway and Finland. 

Valentina joined KZN Philharmonic Orchestra and Baroque 2000 orchestra in 2002, and was holding the position of Co-principal of 1st violins of the KZNPO between 2006 and 2009. During this time she led the orchestra on several occasions. She was also a Soloist with the KZNPO in 2006 and has had numerous solo performances with Baroque 2000 orchestra. She was an active member of Wouter String Quartet (Blue Velvet String Quartet) which was voted as Best Classical group in KZN for 2007 and was performing regularly throughout KwaZulu Natal. Her chamber music experience includes performances both on violin and viola with Cape Town Tango ensemble’s leader Stanislav Anguelov, Duet with James Grace on Hilton Festival of Arts and many performances with the acclaimed SA pianist Christopher Duigan.

Valentina moved to Cape Town in January 2009, and started working as a freelance musician and regular ad hoc violinist with Cape Town Philharmonic orchestra as well as permanent member of Tinta Barocca group for Early Music where she has been a soloist in a number of concerts.  In September-October 2010 she was invited to play in series of chamber music concerts on the Klein Karoo Klassique Festival in Oudtshoorn together with leading international and local musicians-lecturers at CT College of Music, Stellenbosch Konservatorium and the Free State University.

During 2010 Valentina was part time violin teacher at Beau Soleil Music Centre, Hugo Lambrechts Music Centre and El Shaddai Christian School but from January 2011 she became a full time violin teacher and conductor of Senior Stings at Hugo Lambrechts Music Centre, where she also presented a violin and piano recital together with Reese Barkhuizen.

Valentina is the 1st violinist of the newly formed Euridice String quartet which gave a recital as part of St Andrew’s Academy concert series in Cape Town in 2011 and also in Simons Town Methodist Church and Hugo Lambrechts Auditorium in February 2012.  She joined Cape Consort-a group for historically informed interpretation of Baroque music- for the performance of "A Venetian Tonic" in March 2012. The group received the Woordfees Trophy in the classical music section.
